Things are getting a little crazy...

I've begun sampling with some of my new yarns I bought from Fairfield yarns. I love it there (as you can tell). I think I need a yarn sort out and clear some room for myself!

Knitted Art

I've always been a big fan of creating inspiration myself. I find if the inspiration is created by you, the work has a much more personal touch. I began laying some of my yarn around trees and taking photographs. I used photoshop to mirror some of the images. I think they turned out really well. I want to take this idea of distorting knit and adding curves and organic lines. Knit can sometimes come across as being stripey and structured so I want to break this and experiment with how I can play about with this.

Collection

So I've finally got my collection together. I had rough ideas of how I wanted it to look, so getting it down onto paper really helped me to visualize how it would work together. I'm really exciting to start making. Ive chosen silks and viscoses for my knits, I wanted luxurious yarns which would provide a lovely sheen to my garments.

Gaining Direction..

I've found putting up images on my wall really helps to keep my ideas focused. Rather than flipping through a sketchbook all the time I can now keep looking at my images to inspire my knits.

Bernard Fortet

I found these amazing photographs by a photographer named Bernard Fortet. I think the colour and simplicity in them really shines through. The image with the lights reminds me of strands of yarn.

She sells sea shells by the sea shore..

I've started collecting my own shells to use as inspiration. My mum actually brought back these amazing coral coloured ones from the Cape Verde isles. I think the colour in these are amazing. I love the idea of having soft natural tones with highlights of a vivid coral.

Looking For Inspiration...

So it's my final year and I want to do something amazing. I've come across these x-ray images of shells on the internet which I think are amazing. I want to use these to inspire the silhouette and shape of my garments. I love the idea of something being protective yet revealing at the same time.
